Bacteriological Quality of Surface Water:


For class three (lll) waters:
"recreation-propogation and maintenance of a healthy, well balanced population
of fish and wildlife"

Fecal Coliform bacteria shall not exceed 800 CFU’s (colony forming units)
per 100 ml on any one (1) day

Total Coliform bacteria shall not exceed 2,400 CFU’s per 100 ml on any one day

 

EPA Recommendation

Enterococcus bacteria should be less than 104 CFU’s per 100 ml for an instantaneous (single ) sample for ocean and bay recreational waters.

Waters just meeting this standard will result in an estimated 19 illnesses for every 1,000 swimming days.
