Learning Objectives

Four million Americans are infected with hepatitis C – four times the number of HIV infections.  It is the most common bloodborne infection in the United States.  Because most of these individuals are not aware they are infected, health care provider knowledge is crucial for control.

Hepatitis C Quick Facts

Welcome to hepatitis C training for health department employees. We will be talking about the current guidelines for diagnosis, counseling, and clinical management of HCV infected patients. We expect these guidelines to evolve as our knowledge increases concerning the epidemiology, the natural history and treatment of hepatitis C infection.

After this program you should be able to:

Bullett Assess a client's risk's for hepatitis C infection. Bullett Diagnose hepatitis C virus infection. Bullett Counsel hepatitis C infected individuals. Bullett Understand the clinical features of hepatitis C.

How to use this site

These web pages are interactive training modules for the Florida Department of Health Hepatitis Program. The menu is always shown on the left side of the page which allows students to self-train over multiple sessions and at their own pace.  The pages include text, photographs, exams, and videos.  Obviously, if your computer does not have speakers, you will not be able to hear the video.  However, the transcripts of the conversations are shown so you won’t miss anything.

The menu option “MMWR” contains most of the information in the MMWR “Recommendations for Prevention and Control of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) Infection and HCV-Related Chronic Disease”, October 16, 1998/Vol. 47/No. RR-19. The remainder of the menu options are more user-friendly and are more specific to the Florida programs.

To check the effectiveness of the training, it is requested that you complete the pretest before beginning the training.  To show that you have taken the training, you must complete the test again when you complete the training.
